Head Coach Bret Henderson begins his 2nd season in charge of the Todd County Central Volleyball team, looking to bounce back from a 12-21 season in 2016. The Lady Rebels fared well against local teams, going 8-5 against 4th Region teams and 6-3 within the 13th District, but found the going more difficult when they ventured out into the state. The Lady Rebels made the 13th District championship game after a 3-0 win over Franklin Simpson High School in the opening round, but fell for the second straight year 0-3 to the Logan County Lady Cougars. After winning two matches in the 4th Region All “A” Tournament, their run ended with an 0-2 loss to Monroe County High School. Todd County Central saw its season end with an 0-3 loss to South Warren in the first round of the Region 4 tournament.
Coach Henderson prepares for 2017 after losing three seniors from the previous season. OH/DS Lacy Kirkman, libero/DS Lindsey Lacy and MH/RH/OH Makayla West won’t be on the court when Todd County Central opens the 2017 season August 17th at Christian County.
Henderson is expecting solid seasons from returning starters Bailey Conquest and Kinley Reding, along with newcomer Natalie Groves who is playing volleyball for the first time.
In Elkton last season, the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Colonels 3-2. TCCHS will begin its All “A” campaign on August 26th, looking to avenge last season’s All “A” loss to Monroe County. On September 2nd, the Lady Rebels will travel to West Creek in Tennessee to compete in the Coyote Clash, after losing all four of their matches there in 2016. They’ll then close out the regular season October 11-12 at the Smackdown tournament in Hopkinsville, the third straight year they’ll compete there, after going 2-2 in the competition last season.
