The Christian County Colonels finished an up and down 2016 season with a record of 6-15-1. The Colonels had some injury struggles throughout the season, scoring 41 goals and allowing 86, and posting a 1-8-1 regional record to go along with a 1-3 district record. Christian County’s season ended in the first round of the 8th District tournament with a 1-0 loss to Ft. Campbell. It was the second straight first round loss after winning the district championship and making a run to the 2nd Region championship game in 2014.

Coach Arne Seeger enters his 4th season looking to replace the firepower he lost in graduates Daniel Knight, Carmelo Hernandez and Samuel Hernandez. Knight led the team with 21 goals and was a 2nd Team All Region selection along with Samuel Hernandez, who scored 9 goals and posted 10 assists. Carmelo Hernandez also moves on after recording 7 goals and 8 assists in 2016. Defensively, the Colonels lose the services of All 8th District defender Brock Knight.

Luke Ferrell is one of the top returning scorers for the Colonels, while Ben Settle will move out of the goal and onto the field this year.  McKay Dunn will take over in goal for the Colonels.

On August 14th, the Colonels renew their 8th District rivalry with UHA to open the season. Christian County scratched out a narrow 3-2 win at Givens Field last season. The Colonels won’t have to travel far when they compete in Hopkinsville’s Boots and Butts Soccer Classic at the Stadium of Champions, September 9-10. They’ll be back at the Stadium hosting their Colonel Showcase on September 23rd, welcoming 4th Region schools Logan County and Franklin-Simpson, and the 3rd Region’s Muhlenberg County Mustangs. Rounding out the field are familiar foes Caldwell County and Hopkinsville High School.
