Trigg County boys’ soccer opened 2017 with a 2-1 loss on post to the Fort Campbell Falcons. The Falcons opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the contest when freshman Kenyon Ward looped in a goal after a scramble in front of the Trigg goal.
Midway through the first half, Trigg tied the game on a 35 yard free kick from freshman midfielder Will Jolly. Late in the half, the Falcons extended the lead when Kenyon Ward got behind the defense, dribbled past Trigg goalkeeper Matthew Smith, and finished from close range.
Both teams had numerous chances in the second half, but couldn’t find the back of the net. It was the Falcons’ first win against the Wildcats since 2011. Sophomore Matthew Smith had one save in goal for the Wildcats, and sophomore Zachary Jones had four saves for the Falcons.
Trigg returns to action Tuesday at home against Russellville, while Fort Campbell travels to the Stadium of Champions to take on Hopkinsville.
