UHA Downs Christian County in Season Opener

The UHA boys’ soccer team kicked off the season Monday night with a big win over district rival Christian County.

The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half on the strength of goals from junior midfielder Ian Calvert, senior midfielder Taylor Daniel, and sophomore midfielder Tanner Thomas.  Both Daniel and Thomas also recorded assists in the first half.  The Blazers finished off the scoring in the second half when freshman Elvin Wagner finished off another assist from Thomas, establishing the final 4-0 margin.

UHA Head Coach Mike Smith was pleased with his team’s energy and balanced effort, as the Blazers got an early leg up in the battle for 8th District seeding.  UHA junior goalkeeper Daniel Johnson had 3 saves.  The win was the first for the Blazers over the Colonels since 2013.

The Blazers host Hopkinsville on August 17th and the Colonels have a long lay off until they travel to Owensboro Catholic August 22nd.
