The University Heights Academy boys’ soccer team played its first match since August 19, picking up a 3-3 road draw with Webster County (5-2-1). The Blazers led 3-1 at halftime, but the Trojans grabbed a couple of goals in the second half to share the spoils.
Senior midfielder Taylor Daniel opened the scoring for the Blazers (1-2-1), before junior defender Simon East scored off a header from a corner kick from junior midfielder Ian Calvert. Webster County scored with about five minutes left in the first half to cut the lead in half, but Blazer sophomore midfielder Tanner Thomas added a third with under two minutes until the break.
However, the Blazers’ lead wasn’t safe, as Webster would get behind the UHA defense on a breakaway to again cut the lead to a goal, and find the back of the net once more with fifteen minutes left in the match to pull even. Junior goalkeeper Dan Johnson had six saves for the Blazers.
The Blazers, ranked 9th in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, return to the pitch when they travel to Owensboro this Saturday to face the 2-5-2 Owensboro Catholic Aces.
