The Trigg County girls’ soccer team stretched their unbeaten streak to seven, shutting out the Christian County Lady Colonels 4-0 at the Recreation Complex Tuesday night. Four different Lady Wildcats scored, and the Trigg defense earned its second shutout of the season.
Junior midfielder Brittany Kelly got the Lady Wildcats (6-3-1) started fourteen minutes in when she scored off a cross from junior midfielder Madisen Ireland. With thirteen minutes left in the half, sophomore midfielder Emily Noffsinger scored unassisted from just inside the 18 yard box. Trigg wasn’t done yet, as just before the break senior Tiffany Shafer scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Kelly.
Trigg senior Alyssa Richardson scored early in the second half, her eighth straight match with a goal, and her 18th goal of the season. The Lady Colonels continued to play hard, particularly on defense, but struggled to get behind the Lady Wildcats’ defense. Junior Payton Hale stood out with a couple of big saves to keep Christian County in the match.
Trigg County, ranked 7th in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, will look to continue their unbeaten run on Thursday when Mayfield (1-8) visits the Recreation Complex. Things don’t get any easier for the Lady Colonels, ranked 13th, as they host 2nd ranked UHA (6-1) on Thursday.
