Hoptown Beats Tilghman 16-9 for First Win of Season

Hopkinsville and Paducah Tilghman have one of western Kentucky’s longest running football series that is approaching 100 games. The schools hooked up for the first time in seven years Friday, with Hopkinsville claiming a 16-9 win at the Stadium of Champions. The win was the first for Head Coach Craig Clayton since returning to Hopkinsville and saw the Tigers improve to 1-4.

Sophomore Jay Bland threw for 197 yards and a touchdown to Gavin Marschand, who entered the game as the 10th leading receiver in the state at 113 yards per game. The Tiger senior topped his average, catching six passes for 132 yards against the Tornado.

Hoptown lost their first four games to teams with a combined record of 18-1 after Friday’s games. The Tigers get a much-needed bye week before starting district play Sept. 29 against Madisonville. The Maroons were 62-0 winners over Hopkins County Central Friday.
