YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region Boys’ Soccer Rankings (Week 6)

Here are the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region Boys’ Soccer Rankings for the week ending September 17th.

 

1. Hopkinsville Tigers (8-2)

The Tigers hang on to the top spot, although they’ll have to share with Henderson (11-1-1).  Hoptown got a 4-3 road win at Marshall County (7-3-1), but then dropped a home match 4-2 to Daviess County (10-3), ranked 11th in the State Coaches’ Poll, to end the week.  The Tigers played both matches without senior forward Tyler Aldridge, who was injured during the Boots and Butts Soccer Classic.

The Tigers have a tough week ahead, travelling to Henderson County for a match-up to determine the current king of the region, before hosting McCracken County (11-1), ranked 12th in the state coaches’ poll.  Hopkinsville will end the week participating in the Colonel Showcase where they’ll face Caldwell County (3-6-1) and Muhlenberg County (1-7-1).

 

2. Henderson County Colonels (11-1-1)

The Colonels move into a share of the top ranking on the strength of a week that saw them go 4-0, beginning with wins over 3rd ranked Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-4-1), and 8th ranked Christian County (3-7-3), before wrapping up the week handing Warren Central, ranked 11th in the coaches’ poll, their first loss of the season, and winning 5-0 over South Oldham (5-8-1) in the Colonel Classic.

The Colonels’ next match is the one everyone has been looking forward to, when they host Hopkinsville on Tuesday.

 

3. Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons (4-4-1)

While the Maroons lost twice last week, a 4-1 setback to Henderson and a 2-0 result against Ohio County (6-4), that hardly merits a drop in the rankings.  This week the Maroons face Daviess County (10-3) and Calloway County (8-2-1) at home, with a 7th District home match against 11th ranked Caldwell County (3-6-1) in between.

 

4. Webster County Trojans (8-3-1)

Webster County holds steady at #4 after only playing one match last week, a 5-2 win over 12th ranked Union County (0-8).  The Trojans will face stiff 2nd Region competition this week from two teams ranked just below them, hosting 5th ranked Lyon County (7-3) and travelling to post to for a match-up with 6th ranked Fort Campbell (1-4-1).

 

5. Lyon County Lyons (7-3)

The Lyons stay at #5 this week after picking up two wins last week, continuing their four- game winning streak.  Lyon County went on the road and won 5-2 over Mayfield (2-7-1) and beat 11th ranked Caldwell County (3-6-1) 5-1 in Eddyville.

The Lyons haven’t lost since a 4-2 home setback to 9th ranked Trigg County (5-6) back on August 29th, and will have a chance to avenge that defeat when they travel to Cadiz to face the Wildcats on Monday.  A second match with Mayfield is also on the schedule, before a big test against 4th ranked Webster County (8-3-1) on Thursday in Dixon.

 

6. Fort Campbell Falcons (1-4-1)

The Falcons only played one match last week, a 1-1 draw with Muhlenberg County (1-7-1) in a game that ended early due to a serious injury to the Mustangs’ goalkeeper.  Fort Campbell squares off with two 2nd Region teams this week, travelling to 7th ranked UHA (3-3-2) on Tuesday and hosting 4th ranked Webster County (8-3-1) on Saturday.

 

7.  University Heights Academy Blazers (3-3-2)

The Blazers went 1-1-1 last week, losing 3-2 on a late goal at Paducah Tilghman (4-7-2), routing winless Ballard Memorial 10-0, and drawing 1-1 with visiting Grayson County (1-10-1) on Saturday.  The Blazers have a busy week on tap, highlighted by 2nd Region match-ups with 6th ranked Fort Campbell (1-4-1) at Givens Field and 9th ranked Trigg County (5-6) at the Recreation Complex.  The Blazers bookend those games with a trip to winless Russellville on Monday and a Saturday trip to Mayfield (2-7-1).

 

8.  Christian County Colonels (3-7-3)

The Colonels stay at #8 after a win and a loss last week.  They went on the road and picked up a big 5-0 win over 11th ranked Caldwell County before falling 10-0 to co-number 1 Henderson County (11-1-1).  Christian County hosts Murray (5-6) on Monday, before a trip to Todd County Central (1-7) on Thursday.  The Colonels end the week hosting the Colonel Showcase where they’ll face Logan County (3-6) and Franklin Simpson (3-4).

 

9. Trigg County Wildcats (5-6)

The Wildcats had a light week, beating Mayfield 2-0 in their only match.  Things will heat up for Trigg as they face bitter, 5th District rival Lyon County (7-3) on Monday at the Recreation Complex, followed by a visit from Paducah Tilghman (4-7-2) on Tuesday.  The Wildcats will return to 2nd Region play when they host 7th ranked UHA (3-3-2) on Thursday.

 

10.  Hopkins County Central Storm (4-4-1)

The Storm move up a spot, after beating Todd County Central 7-1 in their only match last week.  They start the week with a 7th District match-up with 11th ranked Caldwell County (3-6-1) and then travel to 12th ranked Union County (0-8) on Thursday.  The Storm end the week hosting winless Ballard Memorial on Saturday.

 

11. Caldwell County Tigers (3-6-1)

Caldwell drops a spot after going 0-3 last week and being outscored 18-2.  First was a 5-0 home loss to 8th ranked Christian County (3-7-3), followed by a 5-1 road loss to 5th ranked Lyon County (7-3) that saw leading scorer Mitchell Scott sent off with a red card.  The Tigers ended their week to forget with an 8-1 loss to Murray High (5-6) at Butler Stadium on Saturday.  They’ll look to get back on track this week with trips to face 7th District rivals Hopkins County Central (4-4-1) and 3rd ranked Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-4-1).  On Saturday, the Tigers have the unenviable task of facing top ranked Hopkinsville (8-2) at the Colonel Showcase at the Stadium of Champions.

 

12.  Union County Braves (0-8)

Union County stays at the bottom of the rankings again this week after losing their only match last week,  5-2 at 4th ranked Webster County (8-3-1).  The Braves have two shots at home this week to get their first win, welcoming Owensboro Catholic (3-7-2) on Tuesday and 10th ranked Hopkins County Central (4-4-1) on Thursday
