The last time the Caldwell County girls’ soccer team beat the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers was the 2007 Second Region championship game. The Lady Tigers were 7-0 winners that night, but had to wait 13 matches for their next win over Hopkinsville.
Caldwell County, ranked 3rd in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, got on the board midway through the first half when junior midfielder Laney Fletcher scored off an assist from senior midfielder Taely Freeman. Senior defender Matteah Butts doubled the lead before halftime with an assist by senior midfielder Meridan Giannini.
Fletcher got her second goal of the game early in the second half, before senior midfielder MacKenzie Smiley took over, scoring the Lady Tigers final 3 goals for the final 6-0 margin. Matteah Butts added a second half assist.
Caldwell County hosts 7th ranked Fort Campbell at Butler Stadium on Thursday, while Hopkinsville travels to the Lady Dragons Lair Classic at Warren Central this weekend.
