The Fort Campbell Falcons and the UHA Blazer soccer teams waged a back and forth battle Tuesday night, with the Blazers prevailing in overtime on a goal by freshman Will Bryan. The Blazers, ranked 7th in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, move to 2-1 in 8th District play while the 6th ranked Falcons are still looking for their first district win.
Junior midfielder Ian Calvert had a huge night for the Blazers, scoring 2 goals and assisting on 4. Sophomore Tanner Thomas and junior defender Simon East each added a goal. The match was knotted at 3 at halftime, with the Falcons pulling ahead 5-3 in the second half, including a converted penalty kick. The Blazers would miss a penalty kick in regulation, but equalized to send the game to overtime tied 5-5.
For the Falcons, senior James Manning and freshman speedster Kenyon Ward did most of the damage, combining throughout the game to put pressure on the Blazer defense.
In overtime, freshman Will Bryan added his second goal of the game, breaking free off a Calvert free kick to go one on one with the Falcons’ sophomore keeper Zachary Jones, coolly finishing into the side netting at the far post for the game winner.
The Blazers look to add to their 4 game unbeaten streak Thursday when they take on 9th ranked Trigg County (6-7) at the Recreation Complex. The Falcons welcome 4th ranked Webster County (8-3-1) to post this Saturday.
