On a night when the Trigg County boys’ soccer team honored 4 seniors, UHA came out on top 1-0 in a closely fought match. The Wildcats fall to 6-8 on the year, while the Blazers, winners of 5 of their last 7, move to 6-3-2.
Trigg and UHA, the 9th and 7th ranked teams in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, played a scoreless first half, although both teams had chances. The second half was much the same with both teams unable to convert on a handful of opportunities, before Blazer senior midfielder Taylor Daniel stunned the Wildcats when he turned on a loose ball 30 yards from the Trigg goal and hit a looping shot that just slipped in over Wildcat sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Smith’s outstretched hands. The Wildcats pushed hard for the equalizer and appeared to have found it when freshman Will Jolly drew a foul in the box for a penalty kick with less than 2 minutes left. However, Blazer junior goalkeeper Daniel Johnson would make the save, preserving the win for University Heights.
The Blazers return to action this Saturday when they go on the road to take on the Mayfield Cardinals (3-9-1). The Wildcats travel to Paducah on Monday for a match with St. Mary (3-8-2), looking to put a stop to a 2 match skid.
