After losing to Christian County to open the season, there may have been some across the region wondering about how good this year’s edition of the Caldwell County Tigers could be. Well, those thoughts have probably dissipated a bit at this point.
With Friday night’s 39-7 beatdown of Union County, the Tigers have won six in a row, and have placed themselves in position to again lock up the top seed in the district. They are 2-0 in district action with wins over Union County and Paducah Tilghman, and the Tigers will be big favorites in their next two district contests against Trigg County and Fort Campbell.
After scoring only ten points in the opener, Caldwell County has not scored less than 24 points since. Three of the six wins, they have score 39 points or more. While the offense gets a great deal of attention, the Tigers have been powerfully efficient on defense. According to stats from the KHSAA, Caldwell County has come up with 15 interceptions, with three of those being returned for touchdowns. The Tigers have also recovered 12 fumbles, with two of those being returned for touchdowns.
The Tigers are back in action Friday as they travel to Trigg County for the annual 139 Bowl.
