It wasn’t that they lost as much as they ran out of time. Heritage Christian Academy fell one goal short in a 3-2 loss to Cornerstone Christian Saturday at Warrior Field.
Cornerstone, ranked third in this week’s KCAA Power Poll, scored twice in the first nine minutes of the contest as a heavy rain fell for most of the first half. HCA had trouble controlling the ball in midfield which led to Cornerstone controlling the possessions for most of the half.
Cornerstone added a third goal just two minutes into the second half. As the rain stopped and the clouds parted, the sunshine seemed to rejuvenate the Warriors. Clay Bonner scored HCA’s first goal of the game with 15 minutes left.
Thomas West scored his 22nd goal of the year on a left-footer with just over two minutes left to draw the Warriors to within 3-2. However, HCA couldn’t get off a good look at the net in the final seconds.
Cornerstone improved to 7-2 in KCAA play, while seventh ranked HCA dropped to 5-10-1 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
Heritage Christian now awaits the pairings for the KCAA playoffs that begin October 19.
