Second Region Volleyball Rankings (Week Nine)

Here are the final Second Region Volleyball Rankings as we head into the postseason next week.

 

1) Henderson County (21-13) – The Lady Colonels suffered just one loss at their Jerry Mezur Spikefest, that coming to Owensboro Catholic. Henderson is 8-0 against region competition and will close out their regular season Thursday against Greenwood, ranked ninth in the state.

2) Caldwell County (19-8) – Caldwell County joins Henderson County as the only teams with unbeaten records against region competition (11-0) and completed a sweep of Eighth District schools in the past two weeks. Caldwell will join several other region schools in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Western Kentucky Smackdown this weekend.

3) Madisonville (22-9) – The Lady Maroons have the most wins (22) of any school in the region. Madisonville won a set against top-ranked Henderson County over the weekend and picked up a four-set win over #6 Hopkinsville. They close out their regular season Thursday at McLean County.

4) Christian County (11-16) – Here is where the rankings get a bit murky. The Lady Colonels endured a tough stretch in the middle of their schedule, but have responded to win six of their last eight matches, including district wins over #6 Hopkinsville and #5 University Heights. They will also be a hosting school in the Smackdown this weekend.

5) University Heights (10-16) – The Lady Blazers had a rough weekend in Henderson County over the weekend but posted a big five-set win over #6 Hopkinsville two days after taking #2 Caldwell County to five sets.

6) Hopkinsville (13-15) –Hoptown lost a five-set thriller to #5 University Heights Academy and dropped two matches to #3 Madisonville. They are 6-5 against region opponents and will help host their annual Smackdown Tournament this weekend.

7) Webster County (13-19) – The Lady Trojans have dropped 13 of their last 15 matches, albeit against good competition. Webster managed to get swept by #3 Madisonville and took #5 University Heights to three sets in Paducah. Webster will host #8 Hopkins County Central Thursday.

8) Hopkins County Central (15-11) – The Lady Storm took #4 Christian County to five sets before falling and lost to #5 UHA in three sets in Paducah. The Lady Storm will be playing in the Smackdown in Hopkinsville this weekend.

9) Livingston Central (18-5) – The Lady Cardinals have eight wins against Second Region schools and 10 wins against First Region schools. The Lady Cardinals will be the top seed in the Fifth District Tournament next week on their home floor.

10) Trigg County (13-16) – Trigg County is starting to beat the teams they should and challenge others as the season winds down. They will play in the Smackdown this weekend and will play #11 Crittenden County in the Fifth District Tournament next week.

11) Crittenden County (3-13) – Crittenden has dropped six straight matches, although they took #9 Livingston Central and #8 Hopkins County Central to five sets.

12) Fort Campbell (4-22) – The Lady Falcons split contests with Todd County Central and have lost a starter due to transfer right before the postseason.

13) Union County (3-21) – Union County will carry a 17-match losing streak into next week’s Sixth District Tournament against #7 Webster County.
