Christian County wrapped up the regular season district title and homefield advantage in the playoffs with a 21-14 overtime win at Graves County Friday night.

Ja’Quon Long’s 6-yard touchdown catch in overtime put the Colonels ahead, and then the defense came up with a goal line stand on a fourth down play at the one-yard line to preserve the win. Reports said players and coaches had to be separated after the game, tarnishing an otherwise well-played game.

Long also had a 42-yard touchdown reception midway through the first quarter for the first score of the game. Long finished with seven catches for 101 yards. Freshman Ellis Dunn had another strong game with five catches for 89 yards.

Diion Leavell’s 3-yard run with 4:11 left in the third quarter put the Colonels up 14-7, but Graves County answered on a Ryan Grant TD catch to tie the contest. Grant finished with six catches for 123 yards and both of Graves County’s touchdowns.

Christian County improves to 8-0 with the win and 4-0 in the district. They will host Madisonville next week and travel to Paducah Tilghman in two weeks.
