The 2nd Region girls’ soccer tournament will kick off at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School on Monday, and like the boys’ tournament, the favorites have been drawn on the same side of the bracket. Henderson County posted a perfect regional record, while the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers had only one blemish, a 3-0 road loss to the Lady Colonels in mid-September.
The Lady Colonels (13-5-2) will open the tournament at 5:30 on Monday when they face the Lyon County Lady Lyons (7-12-2). The nightcap will feature the Lady Blazers (15-3) taking on hosts Madisonville-North Hopkins (10-6-4). Henderson and Lyon did not meet during the regular season, while UHA rolled over the Lady Maroons 8-1 on the road just a couple of weeks ago.
Tuesday’s quarterfinal games begin with the Caldwell County Lady Tigers (12-9-1) clashing with the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers (6-11-1). The late game will pit the Trigg County Lady Wildcats (11-5-2) against the Webster County Lady Trojans (8-10). Caldwell eased to a 6-0 home win over Hopkinsville in mid-September, around the same time the Lady Wildcats crushed the Lady Trojans 9-0 in Dixon.
The quarterfinal winners will meet in the semifinals on Wednesday, with the champion to be crowned on Thursday night.
