The Hopkinsville boys’ soccer team did their part, and the Henderson County Colonels took care of their quarterfinal business as well, winning 10-0 over the Trigg County Wildcats in the 2nd Region Tournament at the Stadium of Champions.  The two region favorites will square off in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Junior Samuel Cloutier got the Colonels on the board in the first minute of the match on a shot from outside the 18 yard box into the top left corner of the goal.  Senior Michael Caron would double the lead midway through the first half, with senior Reade Mattingly adding a third just a couple of minutes later.  With under 2 minutes to play in the half, the Colonels broke the game open with goals from seniors Aaron Wayne and Armando Zamarripa.  Henderson took a 5-0 lead into halftime.

The Colonels started quickly in the second half as well, taking a 6-0 lead on a goal by senior Caleb Coomes.  Junior Ed Zeron scored off an assist from senior Cartel Gilbert, with Caron and Wayne adding their second goal each to put the Wildcats on the brink of their first mercy rule loss since the 2005 season.  The end came with 18 minutes left in the second half, when Wayne added his third with a header off a free kick.

The Colonels (16-3-2) face the Hopkinsville Tigers (17-4-1) Wednesday with the winner advancing to the 2nd Region championship match.  The Tigers and Colonels tied 5-5 at the Stadium of Champions in the regular season.
