A strong second half performance led the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers into the Girls 2nd Region Tournament semifinals, as UHA blanked the Madisonville Lady Maroons Monday night 5-0. The win sets up a match with Henderson County Wednesday evening.
The match began with the Lady Blazers looking like they intended to take care of the Lady Maroons in short order. Kate Cansler scored less than six minutes into the contest to put UHA up 1-0. Madisonville’s defense stiffened however, and the Lady Maroon were able to hold UHA at bay for the rest of the half, despite the Lady Blazers controlling the flow of the game.
UHA game roaring out of the gate in the second half, with Cansler scoring her second goal just 16 seconds into the second half. Alli Cundiff picked up back to back goals over an 18 minute span to extend the lead to 4-0. Lilly Strader sealed the win with a goal with under 3 minutes to go in the match for the final margin.
UHA’s defenders were up to the task all night long, keeping the ball away from the goal, with only a handful of shots reaching goalie Lainey Burman all night long.
The win, which was the Lady Blazers eighth in a row, improves UHA’s record on the season to 16-3-0.
