The UHA Lady Blazers used a strong 4th set effort to seal their win over Christian County in the second 8th District volleyball semifinal Tuesday night. Unlike the last time these two teams met on the court, when Christian County rallied from two sets down to win the match, the Lady Blazers were able to cut short a Lady Colonels rally.

UHA opened the match by winning the first set 25-20. The set had been a back and forth battle, until some late set Christian County errors enabled UHA to pull away. The Lady Colonels continued their struggles with unforced errors at the beginning of the second set as UHA, with Evelyn Morales at the serve, scored the first 14 points of the set, and then rolled on to take the set 25-11.

Christian County then came battling back in the third set, much like the last time these two teams played. Behind strong play from Kathryn Buchanan and Kimberly Paumen, the Lady Colonels took the set 25-20.

It looked like the match was headed for a 5th set, like the last time, as Christian County got out to a 16-14 lead in the 4th set. However, this time it was not meant to be. Behind the play of Morales, Lily Hendricks, and Aisha Pantiere, UHA outscored Christian County 11-7 to finish the set, and the match with a 25-23 win.

Christian County sees their season come to an end at 18-18, while UHA moves on to another match against Hopkinsville Wednesday evening in the 8th District championship game.
