The Caldwell County Lady Tigers had the look of a team on a mission Tuesday night as they rolled over Webster County in the quarterfinals of the girls 2nd Region volleyball tournament. Caldwell County won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-3, 25-19, and 25-12.
The Lady Tigers were very crisp from the outset, scoring the first 13 points of the first set behind the serving of Olivia Mitchell. Webster County never got their footing in the first set, as Caldwell County rolled to the 25-3 opening set win.
Webster tried to make more of a battle of it in the second set, however the net play of Mitchell and Carlie Peek, who earlier in the day was named the Region 2 “Player of the Year”, was too much for the Lady Trojans to over come.
Caldwell County got off to another quick start in the 3rd set, and quickly put the match away. The Lady Tigers got solid play from Abby Griggs and Savanna Tays to help seal the win.
For the night, Peek had 12 kills and Mitchell had 10. Mitchell added five service aces. And, Savanna Tays stepped up to provide 19 set assists.
Caldwell County advances on to the first semifinal Wednesday night, where they will take on the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers, who defeated Livingston Central in straight sets in Tuesday night’s opening match.
