Henderson County won their third straight Second Region Volleyball title Thursday, defeating Caldwell County 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) at Trigg County’s Wildcat Gym. Henderson joins Madisonville (2004-06) and Caldwell County (2009-11) as region teams to win three straight titles.
Caldwell County struggled with service errors in the first set and could never mount a run to overtake the Lady Colonels. Henderson built a 19-15 lead and won the first set 25-20.
Caldwell, who had dominated the net in tourney wins over Webster County and Hopkinsville, struggled to do the same against the Henderson duo of Libbie Dockemeyer and Hannah Watkins, who combined for 27 kills in the match.
The Lady Tigers battled with Henderson County in the third set, tying the match at 15 before the Lady Colonels scored 10 of the next 14 points to win the match.
The straight set win by Henderson County assured that every match in the region tournament was a straight set victory, the first time that’s happened since 2005.
Caldwell County’s season ends with a record of 27-10, while Henderson County advances to the State Tournament with a record of 25-14. The Lady Colonels will play top-ranked Assumption Nov. 3 in the first round of the state tournament at Valley High School in Louisville.
