Barren County knows the playoff path to the Stadium of Champions, however they have never left Hopkinsville with a postseason win.

Christian County hosts Barren County Friday in the first round of the Class 5A football playoffs for the seventh time in the past nine years. The Colonels have won all seven by an average score of 43-8.

Barren County’s only win was a 26-15 victory over Grayson County on Oct. 20. That’s the only game where the Trojans have scored more than a touchdown. Barren has been shut out in five of their 10 games this year.

Christian County on the other hand wrapped up their first-ever perfect regular season with a 20-10 come-from-behind win over Paducah Tilghman Friday. The Colonels are giving up just 13 points a game on defense, while averaging just under 30 points on offense.

The Colonels have struggled to find a consistent rushing attack most of the season but have settled on junior Jadonavin McNeal, who rushed for 138 yards in the win over Tilghman.

Like Barren County, the Colonels have seen their season ends at the hands of a common opponent. Bowling Green has ended Christian County’s season in the second round four of the last six years. However, the Colonels have home-field advantage throughout the postseason and would not meet the Purples until the region championship.
Christian County is making their 33rd postseason appearance with an overall record of 35-30.

Barren County is making their 20th playoff appearance. Their only postseason win came against Oldham County in the first round of the 1992 playoffs. Ironically, the coach of that Oldham County team was former Trigg County coach and current Hopkinsville assistant coach Curtis Higgins.

Kickoff Friday at the Stadium of Champions is 7pm.
