Trigg County’s DeDe Barbee comes from a family with a rich cross country heritage. Her mother Nikita finished 11th for Trigg County’s state champion cross country team in 1991 and was named Second Team All-State. Her aunt Antoinette finished one place ahead of Nikita at the 1991 state meet and was also a Second Team All-State selection.
On Saturday, DeDe ran in her first state meet and finished 114th in the Class 2A Meet in a time of 22:49 over the 3.1-mile course and was the 23rd fastest freshman in the event. She talked about her run and told us what advice her mother gave her about running in the state meet.
