The University Heights Academy girls’ soccer team only lost 4 games in 2017, unfortunately 2 of those came to 2nd Region rival Henderson County. The Lady Blazers posted a 16-4 record, scoring 115 goals and only conceding 30. For the second straight year they were 8th District champions, before being knocked out in the 2nd Region tournament for the third year in a row by Henderson County. The Lady Blazers also advanced to the All “A” State semifinals.
UHA only lose 3 seniors, third leading scorer Alli Cundiff, fourth leading scorer Sheldon Cunningham, and defender Taylor Rogers. Returning are Lilly Strader, the team’s leading scorer with 42 goals, Kate Cansler (24 goals and 14 assists), and goalkeeper Lainey Burman, who recorded 10 shutouts in 2017.
The Lady Blazers look like the 8th District favorite for 2018, and figure to once again be in the mix for a 2nd Region title, but that will probably require UHA finally get the best of the Henderson County Lady Colonels.
