Christian County girls’ basketball coach Kiki Radford enters her second season leading the Lady Colonels, coming off a 17-14 campaign in which they fell to Hopkinsville in the 8th District championship game, the fifth straight year they’ve been district runners-up. The Lady Colonels’ season ended with a loss to Webster County in the second round of the 2nd Region tournament.
The Lady Colonels lost Tovah Wadlington, the fifth-leading scorer (4.2) and second-leading rebounder (5.2), and Shakia McGregory, the fourth-leading rebounder at 3.7 a game, to graduation, but return much of last year’s firepower. The three leading scorers are back, led by junior guard Aaliyah Hampton at 14.7 a game. Senior center Trinitee Jackson was second in scoring with 13.2 and senior guard Laderia Gold was third at 12.9. Jackson led the team in rebounding with 10.3 a game and Hampton was fifth with 3.6. Hampton was also an elite defender, taking over 20 charges throughout the season.
Coach Radford notes that junior guard Kinara Phillips is particularly good defensively, and expects her to rack up a lot of steals for the Lady Colonels. She also feels junior guard Bianna Snorton has taken a big step forward and is set for a breakout year, displaying a nice stroke from the outside. The Lady Colonels will count on some new faces as well, with Radford expecting significant minutes in the post from sisters Eniya and Trinity McGee, a sophomore and freshman respectively. Junior shooting guard Areonna Day transferred in and will provide another perimeter shooter.
The Lady Colonels get the season started on November 28 when they travel to Greenville to face the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs.
