VIDEO- Lady Rebels Drop Season Opener

The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team took the floor for the first time Monday night under first-year head coach Travis Lovan, losing 45-35 in the season-opener to the visiting McLean County Lady Cougars.

The Lady Rebels fell behind early, trailing 11-1 with less than three minutes left in the first quarter.  Senior Tatyana Peterson, normally a starter, came off the bench and provided a spark, helping to pull the Lady Rebels to 13-6 at the end of the quarter.  However, McLean County would continue to stretch their lead, taking a 25-13 lead into halftime.

Todd County outscored the Lady Cougars 8-5 in the third, trailing 30-21 heading into the final quarter.  In the fourth, Peterson scored 4 straight points to cut the lead to 32-25 with 6:45 remaining, but the Lady Rebels never got any closer, falling 45-35.

Peterson was the leading scorer with 11, followed by senior guard Alexis O’Daniel with 7.  Junior guard Jasmine Mimms and freshman center Makayla Artis both chipped in 4.  Senior Michaela Robertson had 3, while senior guard Natalie Groves, junior guard Amy Brumfield , and junior guard Paige Rager had 2 each.

Todd County returns to action on Friday when they travel to Tennessee to face Kenwood (Clarksville), TN.  After the game, Coach Lovan spoke about the areas he felt cost his team the win.
