HCA Finishes Third at KCAA Holiday Classic

Heritage Christian Academy finished third at the KCAA Holiday Classic in Louisville Saturday.  After dropping their opener Friday against Highlands, the Lady Warriors rallied to win three games Saturday.

HCA, who entered the week as the number one team in the KCAA, knocked off defending state champion and No. 2 ranked Trinity Christian for the second time in three weeks, winning 42-31 in Saturday’s opener.

The Lady Warriors beat the host school and No. 9 Micah Christian 38-24 in the consolation semifinals, and beat No. 5 Somerset Christian 51-38 in the third place game.

Against Trinity, HCA built their lead to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter before settling for the 11-point win. Chelsea Dortch had a huge night for the Lady Warriors, knocking down four 3-pointers and finishing with 21 points. Rachel West scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half as HCA built a 23-15 halftime lead.

Hope Flournoy scored seven points, and Logan Gibson added two points.

HCA used a fast start against Micah and held on for the 14-point win. The Lady Warriors led 12-5 after one quarter and 18-8 at halftime. HCA got one of their more balanced efforts of the season as seven different players scored. West had 15 points, and Dortch added 10. Meredith Crunk, Kayley Wadlington, Abbi Bullock, and Kinley Deason each scored two points.

HCA beat Somerset despite scoring just one point in the third quarter. The Lady Warriors led 31-17 and survived an 8-1 Somerset run in the third frame. Dortch scored seven of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as HCA outscored Somerset 19-8.

West, who was the only Lady Warrior named to the All-Tournament team, scored 18 of her 21 points in the first half. Crunk and Wadlington both scored four points.

HCA (6-3) returns to action Monday against Jo Byrns (TN) at Warrior Gym.
