Wildcats Hold Off Rockets to Snap District Losing Streak

Trigg County snapped their seven-game district losing streak with a 50-46 road win at Crittenden County Friday. The Wildcats twice saw double-digit leads dwindle to nothing, but some key free throws on a night when many weren’t falling proved to be the key.

Trigg led 39-28 with 1:27 left in the third quarter, but the Rockets rallied with seven straight points – all by Logan Belt – to cut the deficit to 39-35 after three quarters. Trigg again pushed the lead out to 44-37 with 5:49 left but the Wildcats only had one field goal over the final 6:25 of the contest. After the Rockets tied the game at 44 with 4:19 left, they wouldn’t get another bucket.

On a night where Trigg shot a paltry 9-of-21 at the free throw line, they hit 4-of-8 in the final three minutes and came up with some key defensive stops to get the win.

DeOvion Day led the Wildcats with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kirome Bingham knocked down a trifecta of 3-pointers to also finish with 11 points. Devron Triplet and Kendric Adams each scored nine points.

Belt and Sawyer Towery led Crittenden County (0-2) with 16 points each.

Trigg County (2-0, 1-0) returns to action Tuesday at Fort Campbell.
