YSE Second Region Girls Basketball Rankings – Week Two

Webster County remains the top-ranked team in this week’s YourSportsEdge.com girls’ basketball rankings, but Christian County is closing the gap. Once you get past the top four teams, just about anyone could be ranked anywhere.

1) Webster County (3-0) – The Lady Trojans eased past McLean County and thumped No. 5 Hopkins Central. They will get a pair of tests against First Region favorites Murray and Graves County in the coming week.

2) Christian County (4-0) – The Lady Colonels have rolled through region competition so far, winning three games by an average of 33 points. They will get their first true tests of the season this weekend with a road game at Bullitt East and home game Saturday with McCracken County.

3) Henderson County (0-4) – How can an 0-4 team be ranked in the top three of the region you ask? They have losses to unbeaten Apollo and 3-1 Bullitt East as well as losses to the 13th ranked team in Indiana (Castle) and Ensworth, a defending Tennessee state champion. The Lady Colonels won’t play a Second Region opponent until their district opener Jan. 9 with No. 1 Webster County.

4) Hopkinsville (1-1) – The Lady Tigers got the latest start of any region team, going 1-1 against out-of-region (OOR) competition. Their next five games are against region schools, starting Friday with No. 15 Fort Campbell.

5) Hopkins County Central (2-2) – The Lady Storm will bounce around in these rankings because the five through 11 t)eams in the rankings are so close. Their next two games are against OOR opponents Muhlenberg County and Paducah Tilghman.

6) Madisonville (1-2) – The Lady Maroons are one spot behind Hopkins Central because they lost to a Fairfield, IL team the Lady Storm beat. However, they played No. 2 Christian County closer than Hopkins Central did. They could be the yo-yo teams in our rankings this year.

7) Livingston Central (2-3) – The Lady Cardinals began 1-3 against OOR teams, although they were against three of the First Region’s top teams – Graves, McCracken, and Marshall County. The Lady Cardinals got a leg up in the Fifth District standings with a win over No. 8 Lyon County Tuesday.

8) Lyon County (2-1) – The Lady Lyons started slow and lost to No. 7 Livingston Central Tuesday. Their next two games are against No. 11 Crittenden County and No. 13 Trigg County.

9) University Heights (2-1) – The Lady Blazers are 2-0 against region competition and will be tested in the coming week against No. 4 Hopkinsville and Calloway County.

10) Caldwell County (1-2) – The Lady Tigers held off No. 11 Crittenden County for their first win of the season Tuesday. Two of their next three games are against region opponents ahead of them in the rankings, giving them a chance to move up.

11) Crittenden County (2-2) – After struggling to put away No. 13 Trigg County last week, they lost to Ballard Memorial and No. 10 Caldwell County. Their next three games are against region opposition.

12) Union County (1-3) – Reports of the demise of the Bravettes may be premature. Derek Phillips has a young team that battled No. 6 Madisonville to 11 points and beat a McLean County team that fell late to No. 1 Webster County. They have a chance to prove their meddle in upcoming games with No. 4 Hopkinsville and No. 8 Lyon County.

13) Trigg County (2-3) – After falling to No. 9 UHA, the Lady Wildcats can make a move in the rankings with upcoming games with No. 7 Livingston Central, No. 8 Lyon County, and No. 4 Hopkinsville.

14) Dawson Springs (0-3) – The Lady Panthers have been competitive in every loss so far, but have struggled to push through for a win. Upcoming games with No. 15 Fort Campbell and No. 11 Crittenden County will give them a chance at a pair of region wins.

15) Fort Campbell (0-3) – It’s going to be a long season for the Lady Falcons, but they will dent the win column if they continue to show improvement.
