Lyon County Takes Rockets to “The Board” For District Win (w/PHOTOS)

Behind the strong play of junior Gabe Board, the Lyon County Lyons got off to a quick start and then held off a furious Crittenden County rally to get their first win of the season in a 5th District game at Lyon County High School Friday night. After leading by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Lyons held on for the 69-64 win.

Lyon County came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. With the game tied at 6-6, Lyon County scored the last 14 points of the first quarter, and the first two of the second quarter to take a 22-6 lead. Much of the damage was done by Board, who had 12 points in the first quarter alone. The Lyons would lead by as many as 17 in the second quarter before setting for a 13 point lead, at 36-23 at the half.

Lyon County was able to keep the lead at double digits throughout the third quarter before the Rockets began to make their move. The Lyons were up 51-40 headed into the final quarter.

Trailing by 11 at 57-46, Crittenden County went on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 57-53. The Rockets would get as close as three on a couple of occasions, but the Lyons were able to make enough free throws at the end to hold on for the five point win.

Lyon County got a huge night from Gabe Board with 30 points. Max Wadlington added 15 points, including 9 of 10 at the free throw line. Travis Yancy chipped in with 10.

Crittenden County was led by Logan Belt with 20 and Tyler Boone with 16.

With the win, Lyon County improves to 1-3 on the season. The Lyons return to action Saturday afternoon at Dawson Springs.
