Just days after cracking top 10 in the state wrestling rankings, Christian County had seven wrestlers take first place, and the Colonels won their fourth straight King of the Bluegrass Tournament Saturday in Louisville.
Colonel wrestlers that took first place were Gage Fowler (106-pound class); Ethan Wells (120); Jakerion Merritt (132); Ishmael Griffie (138), Neal Aldridge (145), Diion Leavell (182); and Niko Bussell (195). Bussell also had the fastest pin of the day, winning his first round match in 14 seconds.
Austin Gibson took second place in the 113-pound class, and Cameron Coleman was second at 160. Mike Elkins took third at 285.
Christian County’s point total of 272.5 beat second place Independence, TN by 63 points. Conner finished in third place with 156 points. DeSales (139) and St. Xavier (135) rounded out the top five.
The Colonels moved into ninth place in this week’s KentuckyWrestling.com statewide rankings. Union County remains first, followed by St. Xavier, Walton-Verona, and Woodford County.
Christian County will wrestle again this weekend at the Cape Central Tiger Classic in Cape Girardeau, MO.
