Let’s say this, the history of undrafted rookies making an impact in the NFL is a fairly short story. Additionally, when you come from a small college, NCAA Division II, without much of a football pedigree, where basketball is king, the list of players to make significant contributions in “the league” gets even smaller.
Forward to today. Keelan Cole is rapidly becoming a recognized name in the National Football League. Sundy, he caught his second touchdown pass of his NFL career. It did not come for a bad team at garbage time, in a game that did not matter. It was a 75-yard catch, for the AFC South leading Jacksonville Jaguars, who are trying to stay in front of the Tennessee Titans.
Cole is an undrafted rookie, from Kentucky Wesleyan College, who made enough of an impression in summer camps, that he made the Jacksonville roster. And, now that he has been given his chance for the Jags, he is making it count.
Cole has started 4 games so far this season for the Jaguars. He is up to 25 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns. He is also rapidly becoming one of the big play threats for the Jacksonville offense.
The 24-year old, who played his high school football at Louisville Central, and then at KWC, is quickly showing that if you can play the game, you can “play the game.”
Oh wow.
