Carlisle County got off to a fast start and then held off a game effort from the Lyon County Lyons Saturday evening to win 57-54. The game was a part of the Save a Life Shootout at McCracken County High School.
Carlisle scored the first six points of the game, on their way to an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Comets would extend the lead during the early part of the second quarter. Then Lyon County began to fight their way back into the contest. Trailing 24-12, the Lyons finished the quarter outscoring the Comets 12-3 to go into the locker room behind only 27-24.
The Lyon County rally continued at the start of the second half. The Lyon defense limited the Comets to 11 third quarter points, while the offense got rolling and pushed the Lyons out to a 43-38 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Carlisle County opened the 4th quarter on a 5-0 and the battle was on for the rest of the game. The two teams went back and forth throughout the quarter. It came down to the final seconds, with the Comets holding a 57-54 lead. Lyon County missed a three pointer that would have tied the game at the buzzer, and Carlisle County walked off the court with the win.
The loss, which was Lyon County’s 4th in a row, 3rd in a row by less than six points, drops the Lyons to 1-7 on the season. They are set to return to action Tuesday on the road against McCracken County.
