Trigg County went 1-1 on the first day of the KME Classic, with Thursday night’s loss to St. Mary dropping them to the fifth place game of their own event.
The Wildcats failed to make a field goal over the final 4:06 and was outscored 8-1 by St. Mary as the Vikings claimed a 46-42 win in the semifinals. Trigg County managed to shoot just 3-of-11 from the field in the final quarter and turned the basketball over five times, while St. Mary knocked down 5-of-11 shots to outscore Trigg 15-8 in the frame.
It was a close game throughout, featuring nine ties and 11 lead changes and no lead more than six points either way.
Kendric Adams led Trigg County with nine points and six rebounds, while Devron Triplet and Kyron Grubbs each scored eight points.
Hale Sims led St. Mary (3-6) with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
In their opener, Trigg County forced Houston County into 34 turnovers on their way to a 68-42 win over the Fighting Irish from Erin, TN. DeOvion Day had a big game, scoring a career-high 25 points along with six rebounds. Cam Jordan added 10 points, and Devron Triplet added eight points.
Trigg County (4-4) will play Clarksburg, TN Friday at noon in the fifth place game. Clarksburg lost to Hickman County 80-42 and to Houston County 60-50.
Houston County plays Hickman County in the third place game at 2pm, and McLean County, who beat St. Mary 68-54 in the opener and Hickman County 73-71 in the semifinals, will play St. Mary again for the title at 4pm.
