Blazers Fall to Bryan Station in Traditional Bank Holiday Classic

A tough start Wednesday for the UHA Blazers in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. The Blazers fell behind late in the first quarter and never recovered as Lexington Bryan Station cruised to the 82-69 win.

The Blazers got off to a decent start, getting out to an early seven point lead. However, the Defenders battled back to take a 20-13 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Bryan Station’s defense continued to control UHA in the second quarter. The Defenders outscored the Blazers 20-14 in the second quarter to take a 40-27 lead at the break.

Cold shooting was a problem in the first half for UHA, as they connected on only 38.5 percent of their shots. Bryan Station was a little bit better, connecting on 42.4 percent.

UHA could not make much headway in the 3rd quarter. Bryan Station got the lead out to twenty points at one time, before settling in for a 56-42 lead after three.

The Defenders were then able to keep UHA at bay during the 4th quarter. The Blazers would get the lead down to 10 points, but never seriously threatened Bryan Station down the stretch.

UHA was led by KyKy Tandy with 35 points in the contest. DJ Quarles came off the bench for the Blazers to add 10. The Defenders were led by Eric Boone with 29, while Terence Clayton-Murphy added 24.

The Blazers shot better in the second half, connecting on 59.1 percent of their shots. Bryan Station also shot better, hitting at a 57.7 percent clip. The Defenders were much better closer to the basket, outscoring UHA in the paint 48-28.

With the loss, UHA falls to 5-4 on the season. The Blazers fall into the consolation bracket of the tournament, where they will take on Floyd Central Thursday afternoon.
