Colonels Ascend to Top Spot in YSE 2nd Region Rankings

The Christian County Colonels have moved into the top spot in this week’s YSE Boys 2nd Region Basketball Rankings.

1. Christian County (8-1) – The Colonels were impressive during their appearance in the Webster County holiday event. They will get the chance to find out a great deal about themselves this week in Poplar Bluff.

2. UHA (5-4) – Three straight losses, albeit to tough competition, drops the Blazers one spot into #2. Blazers are still looking for someone to consistently be a supporting #2 scorer behind KyKy Tandy. When they do, they could quickly move back into the #1 spot.

3. Madisonville (9-3) – The Maroons have won five of their last six, with the only loss in that stretch coming to Jeffersonville, Indiana. This continues to be the team that looks like the dark horse candidate to crash the 8th District party at the regional tournament.

4. Hopkinsville (4-5) – Again, you almost want to put an asterisk by Hopkinsville in the rankings, noting that their current position is based on the team that is currently appearing on the court, not on their potential if everyone comes back. Two losses in Paducah lead to the one position drop.

5. Webster County (8-3) – The Trojans looked solid in their own pre-Christmas event, with the only loss coming to Christian County. That doggone loss to Livingston Central still causes some concern, especially since it happened in Dixon.

6. Henderson County (5-4) – Still trying to get a good gauge on this year’s Henderson County team. That big loss to Tilghman last week looks better after the Blue Tornado won their own Christmas tourney over some good teams.

7. Livingston Central (7-5) – The Cardinals are an overtime loss to an 11-1 Dyer County team from being on an 8 game winning streak. This team gets more intriguing as the season goes on. A long way from that 0-4 start.

8. Caldwell County (5-5) – The Tigers gave a solid effort at the Butler County tournament, going 2-1. Their drop in the rankings by one slot this week is less about their performance, and more about the hot streak that Livingston is on right now.

9. Hopkins Central (5-5) – The Storm swept through the Union County tournament, including a beat down of the Braves on their home court. Storm playing better. The potential is there for them to start a climb.

10. Union County (6-4) – The Braves go 2-1 in their own holiday tournament. The one note of concern for Braves fans is that loss to Hopkins Central at home. Brings to question the six wins and whether or not they were a product of schedule.

11. Fort Campbell (2-4) – No games again this week, no change for the Fort Campbell Falcons. They are off until after the first of the year.

12. Dawson Springs (2-8) – Three straight losses at the Union County tournament. Not a good formula for moving up in the regional rankings.

13. Trigg County (5-4) – A couple of wins over Tennessee teams in the KME holiday event. Still want to see what this team can do against area teams to start reading much stock into it at this point.

14. Lyon County (1-9) – Another close loss for the Lyons. They have now lost five games by less than ten points. Close, but need to start getting some of those to go their way.

15. Crittenden County (2-6) – The Rockets nearly moved up out of the bottom spot with their win over Ballard Memorial. The only thing that kept that from happening was the loss to Lyon County head-to-head.
