
The Christian County boys’ basketball team began its post-Christmas holiday tournament schedule with a 72-58 loss to Jonesboro, AR at the Poplar Bluff Showdown on Wednesday. The Golden Hurricane are the defending 6A state champions, after going 32-0 last season. Jonesboro improves to 8-1 on the year, and are currently ranked second in the state. The Colonels slip to 8-2 and see their five-game winning streak snapped.
The Colonels played the Golden Hurricane tough through three quarters, before giving up an 11-1 run in the fourth quarter to decide the game. Senior forward Detorrion Ware led the Colonels with 21, including 8 in the fourth quarter. Junior forward Fred Tandy scored a steady 14 points, posting 7 in each half. Sophomore guard Damikeon Mathis was the only other Colonel in double-figures with 10. Junior forward Eric Brody scored 7, senior Kolbe Langhi had 3, and sophomore Shay Stone had a point to finish the Colonel scoring.
With the loss, Christian County will play at 4:00 on Friday against Humboldt, Tennessee.
