Lady Tigers Fall Short Against Campbell County

After breezing through the first two games of the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren, the Hopkinsville girls’ basketball team got a much stiffer test on Saturday, losing 68-49 to the Campbell County Camels.  The Camels improve to 14-1, while the Lady Tigers fall to 11-4.

The teams played a tight first half, with the Camels scoring 19 points to Hoptown’s 14 in the first quarter, and both putting up 16 in the second.  Junior forward Jayla Rose had 10 points in the second quarter alone, and led the Lady Tigers with 13 points at the break, followed by junior point guard Breon Oldham and senior center Zakyra Stallworth with 6 each.

The Camels were able to stretch their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 15-10 and taking a 50-40 lead into the final quarter.  The Lady Tigers were within single digits with just under four minutes left to play, but the Camels went on a run to pull away and win 68-49.

Rose led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17, followed by Stallworth with 13.  Stallworth turned in an efficient performance, going 6 of 7 from the field and collecting a team-high 13 rebounds.  Oldham finished with 10 points, and senior point guard London Foster had 5 and 5 rebounds.  Junior guard Yogianah McKnight and sophomore guard Anna King had 2 points each.

Hopkinsville plays its final game of the tournament against Newport Central Catholic (5-5) on Saturday at 5:00.
