It’s no secret that Hopkinsville has been Forrest Gump box of chocolates of the Second Region – you never know what you’re going to get. Tiger Coach Tim Haworth has to be pleased with the box in recent days as Hoptown beat Marshall County 62-54 Saturday at McCracken County’s Mustang Madness.

Less that 24 hours after hanging 101 points on Fort Campbell, the Tigers scored the first seven points of the game and led Marshall County 20-6 after one quarter with the help of four 3-pointers. Hoptown led by as many as 18 points in the first half and settled for a 34-22 lead at intermission.

Marshall County answered with a 14-2 run to start the third quarter and tie the game at 36. The Tigers ended the quarter on an 8-2 run and never allowed the Marshals to get closer than five points the rest of the way.

Freshman Alijah Watts was named game MVP with 18 points and had three of Hoptown’s eight 3-pointers. James Nicholas added 13 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Johnson knocked down 7-of-10 free throws to finish with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Bryce Smith knocked down a trifecta of 3-pointers to finish with 11 points.

Matt French led Marshall County (9-6) with 13 points.

Hopkinsville improves to 6-9 with the win and will play at Warren Central Tuesday.
