Trigg County appeared set to snap the longest district drought in their program’s history only to watch Livingston Central do just enough to grab a 40-39 win over the Lady Wildcats Friday at Wildcat Gym.
Trigg County used a 7-0 run to grab a 39-37 lead with 1:44 left. However, Trigg missed two shots with the lead and allowed Livingston Central to grab two offensive rebounds in the final 22 seconds that kept them from picking up their first district win of the season.
Livingston Central outrebounded Trigg 37-27 in the contest, including 18 offensive rebounds that led to 19 Lady Cardinal second chance points.
Trigg County got 14 points and 12 rebounds from Lauren Oliver, while Katelyn Slone knocked down a trio of 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Bethany Stallons and Adri Phillips each scored six points, with Stallons adding four assists and four steals.
Tabby Padon, who recently became the school’s all-time leading scorer, finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds. She was 8-of-13 at the free throw line. Hailey Stafford added eight points.
The game was a major reversal from last month’s 51-22 Livingston Central win in Smithland.
Livingston Central improved to 9-8 overall and 4-0 with the district win, their 17th straight over the Lady Wildcats dating back to 2010.
The loss was Trigg County’s 43rd straight against district opponents that dates back to January 2012. Their next district game is Friday against Crittenden County. Trigg returns to action Monday at home against Calloway County.
