The Madisonville Maroons used an inside-outside combination to upend the Caldwell County Tigers Tuesday night in a 7th District battle in Princeton. The inside strength of Ksaun Casey, along with the outside shooting of Cade Cunningham, was too much for the Tigers to overcome, as the Maroons cruised to an 83-57 win.
Cunningham and Kenny White got the visiting Maroons out of the gate quickly. Each scored 7 points in the first quarter, as Madisonville got out to a 23-14 lead.
Madisonville kept the pressure on during the second quarter. Extending their lead to 45-28 at the half. Cunningham stayed hot for the Maroons, scoring 9 more points in the quarter, all on 3-point shots. Casey got rolling from the inside during the quarter, adding six more.
In the third quarter, it was the Maroon defense that sealed the game, limiting Caldwell County to just six points in the quarter. Meanwhile, the Madisonville offense kept it in high gear, scoring 20 more points to push the lead on out to 65-34.
The Caldwell County offense tried to pick up the pace in the 4th quarter, but by that time the margin was too much to overcome.
Derrin Boyd once again was solid for the Caldwell County Tigers with 22 points. Jameer Riley scored 12, while Cayden Fraliex was also in double figures with 11. The Maroons were led by Cade Cunningham, who lit it up for 25 points on the night, including five 3-pointers. Ksaun Casey added 17 for Madisonville.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-8 on the season. The win improved Madisonville to 13-5. It was also an important rebound for the Maroons, who were coming off an 18 point loss at home to UHA on Friday.
