With an impressive week, the UHA blazers have move back into the top spot in this week’s YSE Boys 2nd Region Basketball Rankings, slightly ahead of the Christian County Colonels. For how long will be determined in the days and weeks ahead as we get some very big matchups across the region.

1. UHA (10-4) – The Blazers are starting to look like the team many thought they would be coming into the season. Five wins in a row, included in that was an impressive 18 point win over Madisonville on the Maroons’ home court.

2. Christian County (10-5) – The Colonels remain right on the Blazers’ heels, and would likely have retained the top spot if they had beaten UHA Tuesday night. With that game suspended, and not factoring into the decision, a couple of losses to McCracken County schools was just enough to slip them into #2.

3. Madisonville (13-5) – The Maroons were impressive in routing Caldwell County Tuesday night in Princeton. The question is have they hit their ceiling in the rankings, as both teams in front of them have beaten them handily on their home floor.

4. Hopkinsville (6-10) – The Tigers are starting to get everybody back, and you can see some signs of that happening. For example, the win over Marshall County. Still, they have to resolve the matter of blending a team back together in the middle of the season. For example, a tough loss on the road Tuesday at Warren Central.

5. Henderson County (7-7) – We are starting to get a feel for the Henderson County Colonels, and maybe, just maybe the rest of the region should take note. A 10 point win over Muhlenberg County, and then last night, a 20 point beatdown on the Webster County Trojans.

6. Webster County (12-6) – The Trojans appear to have entered a bit of a mid-season funk. They nearly lost to Union County. They lost a tough battle at Caldwell County, And then Tuesday night, the Trojans were taken to the woodshed by Henderson County.

7. Caldwell County (7-8) – Caldwell County is one of those teams at this point that is still hard to get a true read on. They looked really good in a win at home over Webster County. But then Tuesday night, they get steamrolled by district foe Madisonville.

8. Hopkins Central (9-7) – The Storm have won seven of their last nine games. The only losses in that span come to South Warren and Bowling Green. A run like that will start moving you up in the region pecking order.

9. Livingston Central (11-7) – The Cardinals had been climbing the rankings ladder the past few weeks, and a win over Union County on the road Tuesday night would have kept that trend going. Except, you have to consider the district loss to Trigg County. For now, the Cardinals are still a team to keep an eye on.

10. Union County (7-9) – A tough week for the Braves. Three losses to region teams is not a formula to making a move up the regional ladder. They get a chance to reverse that trend with games coming up against Henderson County and Caldwell County.

11. Trigg County (8-6) – The win over Livingston Central was a nice win for the Wildcats. A tough loss to Calloway County was just enough to keep them from climbing a spot or two in the rankings for this week.

12. Lyon County (2-10) – The Lyons got a win over Crittenden County, which is a season sweep of the Rockets in district play. They have five losses by six points or less. That is enough to cause the remainder of the 5th District to sweat more than just a little bit.

13. Fort Campbell (2-7) – Three big losses since the Christmas break. But still believe at this point that the Falcons are better than the two teams ranked below them. Time will tell.

14. Crittenden County (4-9) – After a loss to Lyon County, the Rockets pick up back-to-back wins, knocking off Community Christian, and going on the road to upend Dawson Springs. See below.

15. Dawson Springs (3-10) – The Panthers slip into the bottom spot after losing at home to the Crittenden County Rockets. Can’t justify not giving the Rockets the advantage in that case, despite the Panthers win over Hickman County.
