Blazers the Favorite to Win Sixth Straight All-A Region Title

University Heights Academy appears to have an easy path to the championship game as the Boys’ Second Region All-A Classic Tournament begins. The Blazers won’t play until Friday’s semifinals at Crittenden County.

Dawson Springs (3-10) and Fort Campbell (2-8) meet Tuesday on post for the chance to meet the Blazers in the semifinals. UHA owns wins over the Falcons this year by scores of 96-47 and 82-49. The Blazers last played Dawson Springs in the 2016 All-A region title game, winning 89-55.

The upper bracket appears to be a wide-open affair with any of the teams having a legitimate shot at advancing to the title game.

Lyon County (3-10) travels to Livingston Central (11-8) in a rematch of Friday’s game won by Lyon County 48-39 in Eddyville. Livingston beat the Lyons by five points last month in Smithland.

The other quarterfinal has Caldwell County (7-8) traveling to Crittenden County (4-10) Tuesday. Caldwell beat Crittenden 70-50 last month in Marion.

The semifinals will be played Friday at 6:00 and 7:30 in Marion with the championship set for Saturday at 7:00.

UHA is shooting for their sixth straight All-A region title and 23rd overall. Webster County, who is too large to compete in the current All-A format, is the last team other than UHA to win the All-A region title in 2012. Lyon County last won a region title in 2009, while Crittenden County won their only region championship in 2000. Caldwell County, Fort Campbell, Dawson Springs, and Livingston Central have never won an All-A region title.
