A nearly 10-minute scoring drought by Trigg County resulted in Union County scoring 33 straight points and securing a 50-23 win over the Lady Wildcats at Wildcat Gym.
The game was the first in over a week for both teams due to the winter weather and was rescheduled from Thursday.
Trigg County took a 9-4 lead on a 3-pointer with 2:23 left in the first quarter and wouldn’t score another point until 1:57 was left in the third quarter. Trigg missed 12 straight shots and committed 13 turnovers during their 16:26 scoring drought.
Union County outscored Trigg County 16-0 in the second quarter to lead 23-9 at halftime and used a 16-5 third quarter run to lead 39-14 after three quarters.
Trigg County shot just 28-percent from the field and turned the basketball over 21 times that led to 30 Union County points.
Union didn’t shoot much better (32%), but only had 11 turnovers and outrebounded Trigg 27-20.
Trigg County got seven points and four rebounds from Lauren Oliver. DeDe Barbie came off the bench to score four points.
Union County (5-12) was led by Jocelyn Spaulding’s 13 points. Ashley Conway added nine points, and Raigon Price scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.
It was the first game between the schools in six years. Union County leads the all-time series 7-3 and have won six straight over the Lady Wildcats dating back to 1992.
Trigg County (6-11) will now wait and see when they play their next game. The Lad Wildcats are scheduled to host Caldwell County Tuesday night. However, if Caldwell wins the Second Region All-A Classic, they will travel to Richmond on Tuesday for their first round state tournament game on Wednesday. Trigg is scheduled to play at Calloway County next Friday.
