Emma Talley’s pro debut on the LPGA Tour saw her shoot a 1-over-74 in the first round of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic at Paradise Islands in the Bahamas Thursday.
Talley’s round included a birdie and two pars on the front nine. The opening round was impacted by gusty winds at the Ocean Course Golf Club that reached 35 mph. As the day wore on, the wind speeds increased. The Princeton native was able to shoot nine pars on the back nine to finish at 1-over. When her round ended early in the afternoon, she was tied for 54th. At day’s end, she was tied for 26th, six shots behind Canada’s Brooke Henderson for the lead.
Talley was able to hit 10 of her 14 fairways off the tee and had 28 putts in the round.
It won’t be any easier for Friday’s second round with winds again expected to be around 20 mph for most of the day. If she shoots an identical score Friday, it’s very likely she will leave the Bahamas with her first LPGA paycheck.
Friday’s second round will be televised on the Golf Channel.
