The Second Region girls’ champion will see a familiar region in the first round of the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament.
For the third time in five years, Region Two drew Region 16. In 2015 and 2016, Henderson County met Ashland in the first round with the teams splitting the matchups. It’s the only times the regions have met in the first round.
Christian County, Webster County, and Henderson County are among the teams considered the favorites to win the Second Region. Boyd County, Ashland, and Russell are considered the favorites to win the 16th Region.
The winner faces a tough second round matchup against the winner of Regions 7 and 11 that feature top ten-ranked teams Sacred Heart and Scott County.
Another top matchup of the first round features the 12th Region, home to defending state champion Mercer County, and the First Region, home to All-A Classic state champion Murray.
In the upper bracket, Region Four drew Region Five in the first round.
