Jaime Towler Choate started playing on the Trigg County High School golf team as a sixth grader. As a seventh grader in 1987, Jaime shot an eight-over 79 at the Princeton Country Club to finish sixth and qualify for her first state tournament where she finished 20th.
As her game began to improve, so did her accomplishments on the course. Jaime was the only girls’ golf player at the school and during the regular season, played in matches against boys’ golfers. She prepped for her postseason by playing her regular season matches from the men’s tees. This move would pay off in the postseason.
Jaime finished third in the region as an eighth grader and finished 13th at the state meet.
Her freshman season saw her lower her scoring average to 44 over nine holes and bring home an eighth-place finish at the state tournament – Trigg’s highest finish for a golfer to date.
Jaime’s breakthrough season came as a sophomore in 1990 when she overcame a steady rain and wind to shoot an eight-over and win the Region I title at the Murray Country Club. One week later, she finished tied for third at the state golf tournament at the Elizabethtown Country Club. Her finish remains the best finish for any Trigg County golfer at the state level.
Her junior season in 1990 saw the KHSAA move golf from the spring to the fall. She repeated as Region I champion and finished tied for eighth place at the state tournament.
Jaime continued her golf career in college at Murray State University where she played on the inaugural Racer golf team for one season, bringing home a career-best second place finish at a tournament in Crossville, TN.
Jaime and her husband Hal have two children, Nick, who won the 2013 Region I golf title at Trigg County and played golf at Murray State, and Lyndsey. Jaime lives in Cadiz and works as an MRI technician.
