Queen For a Day, West Leads HCA Comeback Win

Rachel West was named Heritage Christian Academy homecoming queen before the game, and then scored sparked the Lady Warriors to a come-from-behind 35-33 win over Clarksville Christian Saturday at Warrior Gym.

West was held scoreless in the first half as she picked up some early foul trouble. She connected on 7-of-9 shots in the second half and had eight of her 10 rebounds after halftime.

Chelsea Dortch picked up the early scoring slack, scoring all 11 of HCA’s first quarter points, including a buzzer-beater to stake them to an 11-8 lead. Clarksville Christian ended the first half on a 10-1 run to grab an 18-14 lead at halftime.

Hope Flournoy began the second half with a bucket for HCA, and West went to work, scoring nine straight points. Dortch again beat the horn to tie the game at 27 after three quarters.

HCA trailed 35-33 with 4:45 left but held Clarksville Christian scoreless the rest of the way. West fed Meredith Crunk for the tying basket with 4:17 left and then scored the eventual game-winner with 1:39 left. The Lady Centurions missed their final seven shots from the field.

West finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds., while Dortch added 13. Flournoy had thee points and nine rebounds, while Crunk added two points and five boards.

HCA was able to overcome 20 turnovers by shooting 38-percent from the field, including 50-percent in the second half.

Clarksville Christian, who beat HCA 41-29 in December, got nine points and eight rebounds from Deja Williams.

Heritage Christian Academy (17-6) will host Glasgow Christian in a KCAA contest Tuesday.
