Todd County Rallies Late to Beat Trigg

Todd County Central overcame an early onslaught of Trigg County 3-pointers to beat the Wildcats 56-46 Tuesday in Cadiz, ending the game on a 22-8 run.

The Wildcats started the game hot behind the arc, knocking down their first four 3-pointers and built an 18-8 lead.

Todd County kept Trigg County from running away in the first half as Nolan Barrow and Jon Calvery teamed up to score 15 of the Rebels’ final 19 points of the half.

Trigg hit 7-of-14 shots from 3-point range in the first half in building a 29-21 lead. But Rebel Coach Frank Johnson switched defenses to put more pressure on the perimeter which led to a three-minute scoring drought by the Wildcats to start the second half.

The Wildcats managed to push their lead back out to 36-28 with 3:00 left in the third quarter, but Johnson opted for a smaller, quicker lineup that saw the Rebels outscore Trigg 8-2 to end the frame.

Todd County began the fourth quarter with six straight points by Clayte Weathers, D.J. Johnson, and Barrow. Kirome Bingham hit a 3-pointer to give Trigg their last lead at 43-42 with 5:17 left. The Rebels ended the game with a 14-3 run that saw them hit their final five shots from the field and hit 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Trigg missed 10 of their last 11 shots over the same time frame.

Barrow led the Rebels with 18 points, 11 of which came in the second half. The senior guard also had seven rebounds and five assists. Calvery added 14 points and eight rebounds. Tashaun Foster scored eight points, and the Rebels got a boost off the bench from Clayte Weathers who scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds, and handed out five assists.

Devon Triplet led Trigg County with 15 points and six rebounds, while Bingham added 12 points and three steals.

Trigg County, which shot 45-percent from the field in the first half, hit just 24-percent in the second half. Todd County, meanwhile, hit 14-of-25 from the field in the second half.

Todd County leads the all-time series with Trigg 42-26 and has won consecutive games against the Wildcats for the first time since 2009.

Trigg County (11-10) travels to Caldwell County Friday, while Todd County Central (13-11) plays at Russellville Friday.
