Trigg County played from behind for most of the night against Caldwell County but could never take the lead in a 62-55 loss to the Tigers Friday in Princeton.
Before the game, Caldwell’s Derrin Boyd was recognized for recently scoring his 1,000th career point. He got a good start on his next 1,000 by scoring 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds Friday.
Boyd scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the first half as the Tigers built an 18-13 lead after one quarter and led 36-26 at halftime.
Every time Trigg cut into the Caldwell lead, the Tigers had an answer. Caldwell led 47-39 after three quarters when Trigg made another surge. Micah Brown started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer followed by a bucket from Devron Triplet and two free throws by Kyron Grubbs to get to within 49-46 with 3:28 left.
Caldwell again answered with a 7-0 run keyed by a corner 3-pointer by Tripp Branch and four free throws by Boyd.
Trigg County cut the lead to five points three times in the final 90 seconds but could never get closer as the Tigers hit 10-of-15 free throws in the final three minutes of the game.
Trigg County forced 24 Caldwell turnovers but got outrebounded 34-20 by the Tigers.
Joining Boyd in double figures were Cayden Fraliex with 12 points and five rebounds and Jameer Riley with 10 points and five assists.
Triplet led Trigg County with 16 points and eight assists. Kirome Bingham scored nine points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Conner Barnes added eight points.
Trigg County fell to 11-11 and is in the midst of a season-long five-game losing streak. They will play at Ballard Memorial Tuesday.
Caldwell County (12-12) has won three straight games and will play at Union County Tuesday.
